The Association of Registered Trichologists (ART) is proud to have sponsored the recent highly successful National Trichology Conference at Salon International.
The Conference was hosted by ART’s General Manager, Mike Patey, and inspirational speakers included Iain Sallis of HairMedic, Glenn Lyons of Philip Kingsley, Steven Goldsworthy of Goldsworthy’s, and Brian Plunkett of TrichoCare.
A wide field of topics was covered during the Conference sessions, including conditions, treatments, consultations and therapies. Lively debate among delegates both within the sessions and in the hospitality areas was evidence of the expanding scope of trichology practice, the fast-growing interest in trichology as a discipline, and the need for more practising trichologists.

Wil Fleeson from Rainbow Rooms in Glasgow, who has over 20 years’ experience as a successful hairdresser and is now a qualified trichologist, spoke passionately about the synergies between hairdressing and trichology: “Both need an emotional commitment to the client, enormous patience and the ability to communicate with genuine empathy and understanding.”
Both Wil and Steven Goldsworthy also talked about the commercial benefits of setting up a trichology practice. “It’s an amazing opportunity to work in an unsaturated market, which is something that hair salon owners rarely get the chance to do”, said Wil.
The ART is a membership organisation for qualified trichologists, professionals with a special interest in conditions of the hair and scalp, and those studying trichology. The ART is committed to ensuring that the many people who worry about hair loss have an easily accessible route to knowledgeable advice, reassurance and treatment. It supports high standards of consultation practice, health and safety and ethical behaviour.
